In a forkless kitchen

you pinch stalks

in long forefingers,

snapped head perched

between your teeth.

In a dream I had

three months ago,

you pressed me

in the dark earth

and held me down.

From my shell

burst forth

unfurling fronds.

In a dream I had

three months ago,

I was wild and green

and headless.
