Evening Stroll

by Edward Anki

It’s a tough place to be
but we’re lucky to be
here the factory district
late September
scarlet horizon
soft breeze
a huddle of men
on break
smoking cigarettes
their voices trailing
our voices trailing
it’s a tough place to be
this planet
this body
this peculiar predicament
this view of stark fluorescent factory
lighting beneath our scarlet
horizon.

Edward Anki's poetry has appeared in BOMBFIRE, Rejection Letters, Roi Fainéant Press, The Feathertale Review, Qwerty, The Chaffin Journal, and others.
