We were arguing on our vacation in Mexico when the frosty beer cans on the glass table started shaking—oh my god!—the ground trembling, heart throbbing, mind racing —what do we do?—I knew we couldn’t just crawl under a desk or stand under a door frame like back home, not in this concrete house, so I yelled, where do we stand Michael, where do we stand? at the exact same time that the earth calmed, and you, cool as a cucumber, looked me in the eye and said, I’m glad you asked, Janice, we need to talk.
