You arrived sort of bedraggled and grew more so as the afternoon wore on, but also happier with it. I’m feeling better than I was earlier, you said as you leaned in. What else? Commentary on the best method for popping corks. Reference to an archbishop. Coy accusations regarding my limited powers of memory. The great city of Liverpool.

It was warm. You were all glowing skin and uncracked secret. I’ve not forgotten that.

Simon Ravenscroft lives in Cambridge, England. He teaches and writes in and around a variety of arts subjects. He’s based at the University of Cambridge, where he is a Fellow of Magdalene College.
