to avoid responsibility, i blame my father for everything

by Susana Rodriguez

at some point it was imbedded
in my brain
i would one day
be required to do a sexy little dance
for a man
so i have been practicing
in the mirror
ever since i could bleed

never mind focusing on things like
taxes, social skills,
job searching, college,
et cetera
instead, i wander through
these desolate streets
broken homes with broken sinks
in search of someone
who is willing
to run their fingers through my
unwashed hair
