Eco Punk

Hearing about another extinct species, I do a line of hope
off the bathroom counter & fix my hair in the mirror. Hope

is not futile at this moment though it may be in the next,
the puddle is running dry & though it may be foolish to hope,

the cause is not lost; there are still black rhinos in Nambia
& did you hear that humpback whales are making a comeback? Hope

is that little tickle of surprise when you count the
mountain gorillas & snow leopards. You may have thought hope

to be out of fashion like the Rock Mountain locust. Dust that shit
off because I am hooked on the promise of hope.
